I wouldn't hold my breath! The last I read was that they were still deciding whether to update it or not. With the new S2 being released next Month the focus will probably shift away from the Galaxy S.

All over Europe, mobile carriers and manufacturers are letting slip bits and pieces of news letting us know when we can expect to see Samsung's Galaxy S finally get an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. While none have promised a specific date by which we can plan to see the software arrive, some have been more specific with their claims than others. The latest to chime in is Samsung Finland, helping to shore-up the ETA a bit.
Earlier today, UK carrier Three tweeted that Gingerbread would be out for the smartphone in several weeks' time. This is following reports of delays, as Samsung Romania initially announced a March release, only to later scale back expectations. Samsung Finland's estimation for the Gingerbread update reinforces Three's assessment, and clarifies the window as "mid-April".
According to Samsung, the update is basically good-to-go and is just going through some final testing before it gets rubber-stamped and released. Once we reach that point, you'll be able to flash the Galaxy S through Samsung's Kies software. Let's hope April doesn't end like March, and no more delays get in the way of this official Gingerbread release.

Samsung has begun pushing out the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update for the Samsung Galaxy S, with multiple European users of xda-developers reporting that the new ROM went live overnight. The update is available through Samsung Kies, the company’s PC software tool.
A Gingerbread build for the Galaxy S was leaked back in February, but until now the freshest European firmware has been Android 2.2 Froyo. US versions of the Galaxy S are still languishing on Eclair in some cases.
It’s early days for feedback on the new ROM, but users are hoping for snappier performance more akin to the Samsung-made Nexus S. Let us know if you spot the update rolling out to your country in the comments.

And it's been pulled just as quick as it appeared. Think this one is going as well as Froyo went!

In the past they have updated the KIES software before they started to roll out the Firmware updates through the new KIES software. I'd imagine that's what the Op was getting at.
