Android Market issue

Hi for the last couple of weeks I have been unable to download any apps from Marketplace. I keep getting a message that the download was unsuccessful, please try again.

I have tried going to Settings, Apllications, Manage applications and clearing Market there. It has reverted to the old version but no luck with the downloading, same error message.

I also tried going to APNs and clearing the Port & Proxy numbers, no difference.

I tried adding my phone to my Google account to see if I could download apps to my laptop and then get them on my phone, but when I go through setup Google account on my phone it goes as far as connecting with my Google account but then says I do not have an internet connection, which I do and goes back to the set up screen.

I have been trying all this on a wi fi connection. It's driving me mad! Help!!

I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia8

Thanks

Re: Android Market issue

Hi sandrart, first question - if you switch off the wifi does it work?

Re: Android Market issue

Hey, I had actually tried this but my issue here is that Market is telling me there is no device assocciated with the account. This is odd because it shows another app I had previously installed on my phone. I tried going through set up to add the phone (google is already synced to my phone) but when it comes to signing in to my account, it first tells me I do not have an internet connection, which I do, and if I retry I get the message 'Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server'.

It's probably something simple, which is why it is so annoying :/!

I'm appreciating all the suggestions. Thanks :smileyhappy:

[ Edited ]

When you set the phone up originally did you use a Gmail account and are you using the same email address now? Can you go to this page: https://www.google.com/dashboard

Login with the Gmail account you used to set up the phone and under Android devices see if your phone is listed there.

EDIT: just fixed the link. Sheena

Re: Android Market issue

I used the link and checked out the dashboard. It says there are no Android devises. I must not have added the phone to it. This is what I was trying through set up on the phone. Can I still add now? Thanks

Re: Android Market issue

The easiest way to do it is to reset the phone. You would need to back up everything first as anything stored on the phone would be deleted.
Before you do that though can you go to settings, apps, market and hit clear data and then restart the phone and see if you can add an account then

Re: Android Market issue

As mentioned in my original post, I tried the clear data option for Market in Applications, no change. I have done a recent Back up. Is it a Factory data reset or will Settings reset do?

Re: Android Market issue

The full reset will need to be done. There will be an option then during set up for entering a Gmail account. Everything will be linked to that then. As I said though everything will be deleted that is stored on the phone so back up anything you don't want to loose such as messages, contacts if they are not synced elsewhere, apps and any media that maybe stored on the phone rather than the SD card. Any content on the SD card will be OK though

Re: Android Market issue

Before you go that far, log into https://market.android.com (its the one linked to your gmail account) then go to the settings or

Android Account Settings and see the apps there.

One issue that you could have and maybe O2 can verify this, if there is a fault in your IMEI (happens) and or the settings of the country in the phone, then when you log in to the market it can present all the wrong info and not let you download anything (who knows restrictions to Iran may have happened and you have that country selected >:¬} in settings)

Now if your phone was rooted you could get this handly litte app >:¬} marketenabler

Re: Android Market issue

I have yet to try thr factory reset on my phone to see if it sorts out the Market issue. However I have discovered that I can download apps from the Opera Store on my phone. This is doing the job fine for now. Thanks very much to all of you who have taken the time to reply with suggestions and advice :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Android Market issue

Hi,

If you check your settings for which county the phone is registered to this may help as well as it could be an issue there, and its in settings.

Its a quick thing to do.
