Unlock Motorola K1

Hi, I upgraded to an iPhone last September. Is it possible for me to get my previous phone (A Motorola K1) unlocked. I want to give it to my son who dropped his new uninsured phone in the sea at the weekend!! The K1 was originally purchased from O" online.
