A new software update will be available from Palm, the handset manufacturer, over the coming days. These updates are released periodically and are intended to improve the user experience. The key features of this update include:
- updates to calendar and contact synchronisation;
- ability to download files from web
- Streaming capabilities for music and video.
Updates are automatically downloaded onto your handset via your wireless connection. If you would like to update your Palm Pre, please follow the below steps:
How do I connect to a Wireless network?
- Tap on the top right of your screen
How do I manually update my device?
You can also check for system updates manually at any time by opening Updates. If an update is available, you can download it immediately and will be notified when the update is ready to be installed. You can use your phone while an update downloads.
Once download is complete you will be prompted to install this on the device, as per the steps below. You will have 10 minutes to choose to install or defer, if they choose to install later, you will be prompted to install the next time they use the phone
Installation
Installation can take up to 15 minutes. While a system update is being installed, you cannot use any part of your phone, and all wireless services are disabled, as seen below. Do not remove your battery while an update is being installed. You may damage the phone.
Please be aware that if no Wireless connection is available after 2 days, the download begins using a high-speed 3G data connection when one is available. Therefore, it is vital that the update is downloaded over Wi-Fi.
In order to ensure that update runs over Wireless connection we suggest that you disable your 3G connection temporarily.
You can disable 3G by:
- Open the Application menu, and tap Preferences.
- Under Network, tap Network Type.
- Tap 2G only: Enables a constant connection to 2G network services. Data connections and transfers occur at 2G speed, which are slower than 3G speed.
