Hi,
I see the following from your FAQ...
How can I let people know my new email address?
You can set up an automated message from o2.ie email to inform anyone emailing you that your email address has changed. This will be available until Wednesday 21 March
Can you provide instructions on how this is done?
Thanks,

Login to email
Go to Options
Go to Vacation message
Hit enable
Put the start day as to day
Put the end date to March 22
Put "1" into the Number of days between replies to repeat senders box
Put Email address change into the Subject box
Enter a text in the box informing people of your new email address
Something like... I will no longer be contactable on this email address, please send future emails to xxx@xxx.com
Hit save changes

Hi, this is my first post and its only because I am seriously let down by this. I have used my email account for a long time and I have been an o2 customer since my first phone over ten years ago. I am sure there is another way. Why dont o2 simply redirect all email addresses to hotmail or gmail? If somebody types in joebloggs@o2.ie, they are instantly redirected and logged into hotmail. Hotmail then get access to all o2 customers who will be viewing all of there adverts and o2 maintains a service for there customers without incurring the costs of running there own email service.

What I will do is have a word but that is the best I can do right now, I can't promise anything.
Thats fair enough. Thanks.

Any idea when we might be able to access e-mails? I have tried whenever I can over the past number of months but most of the time cannot view. Even when I can see some e-mails I get an error message when I try to open them or delete them. I keep getting notifications that I have exceeded my quota, but obviously this is going to happen when I cannot delete. I just need to be able to access my older mails in particular as I have been using this as my main address.
Thanks
Sinead

Only 1 question - I currenty receive my O2 mobile phone bills via my O2 e-mail address ... I have other e-mail addresses so amn't worried about losing this one ... but what about receiving my phone bills? Will O2 start posting them out to me again? Or do I need to contact them and change my e-mail address for receiving phone bills?
Thanx ....

i have to agree, its an outrage that o2 are terminating this service. i would urge o2 to set up an automatic redirection service for all their customers at once. i am at this moment considering changing provider because of this.

The disgraceful way this was handled leaves me breathless. Does o2 not want customers? I have a second email address, and have set up another one, but I know there is mail in my o2 mailbox that I will never see. Probably too late to deal with now anyway. When my conrtact is up, I am gone.

I am trying to set up a hotmail account and transfer across my O2 emails, however it tells me that Gmail doesn't recognise the O2 pop server "mail.O2.ie" port 110.
What am I doing wrong?????

I agree wholeheartedly, Ryamma, but while I fully understand the points you have made, those of us who have voiced criticisms in this forum in the past have either been edited, threatened with having threads closed down or simply ignored.
The people who act as moderators or administrators are powerless to do anything except trot out the mantra which the PR people have penned for them and hope the current wave of disgruntlement will pass over with minimum impact on them. They espouse company policy and there is no greater God than that.
Your human reactions are entirely subordinate to the corporate primacy of o2.
Clearly, the potential discomfort of a mere 16000 o2.ie e-mail users has no impact on the organisation, so no matter how heart-felt your observation, expect nothing as a result - it don't work that way 'round here!
The only thing o2 understands is public censure (or potential censure) or loss of custom.
I've said it before here - complain to the Telecommunications Regulator - it is only organisations and people of that standing which o2 acknowledges as having a valid point of view.

What about people who have their email address printed out on thousands of business cards, that they have paid for? What about people who have paid to have their O2 email address advertised on their vans/cars? It's a disgrace. Wouldn't blame everyone who will be changing provider, I know I am.
I am very sorry about this Ryamma but the situation is unavoidable. I wish I could offer a solution to this but there isn't one.

I disagree, O2_daryll - all of this was avoidable
- had o2 pursued a policy of real customer care, being up-front and honest with its customers, not the aspirational and ultimately meaningless waffle we have been subjected to plus the backsliding manner leading to the demise of o2 mail;
- had o2 maintained its mail servers, which as a mail provider it was obliged to do, and had o2 not allowed them degrade to the point of obsolesence;
- had o2 maintained its side of the contract with its paying customers - to provide a mail service in return for our money.
There is a solution - it is only too obvious to those of us affected by corporate primacy in this case.
And, I note with alarm that moderators/administrators are now pinning the "tips to us help you" box to their inputs.
Sorry - no-one at o2 has helped me on any point at any stage of this debacle.
My initial post on 31 Jan hasn't been solved (to my satisfaction at any rate), just made worse.
Can someone enlighten me as to how if I need to PM (I assume that's Private Message) a moderator and if my PM hasn't been "requested" by the moderator (Please note that unrequested PM's will not be responded to) what possible use clicking on the "Send a PM to a Mod" button can be?

I think it's a joke that you are ending the email service. I've used the service for several years and all my email is conducted through it. I've spent hours over the past week moving and changing email addresses. I'll be moving all my business from o2. This has caused me a huge amount of inconvenience!!!
