Broadband and 3G Coverage.

I got a hotshot in December as I could not get my dongle to work on my apple Mac

having had lots of problems getting a 3g coverage o2 have released me from my contract

as they can't guarantee me 3g cover 

I need to get the hotshot I bought unlocked

so I can try a payg Simi from another carrier to see if the problem with cover is just a o2 problem

How long does it take for o2 to get back to me i sent in my request  and have not heard anything from them to say that they will send me unlocking code

I got the unlocking code!!!!!!  for my hotshot in February before I went on hols but was unable to unlock it as it said data card not found so I took it into Roscommon O2 store and they had same problem. Can you let me know how to get it unlocked as I travel to UK at lest 3 times a year and would like to use my hotshot so I don't need to use the hotel internet.

Steps to unlock Huawei Modems

Need to unlock your Huawei modem? No worries. Here’s how: 
Please go to www.o2.ie/broadband-unlock and Save O2 Broadband_ Unlock to your Desktop
You will now see a new icon on your desktop called O2 Broadband Unlock
Plug in your modem
Double click on the O2 Broadband Unlock icon.
You will be prompted to enter your unlock code.
Enter the code you were given by O2 to unlock the modem.
The display will then tell you Unlock Successful.
Your modem is unlocked!
If you get the message, “Data Card Not Found” please check that your modem is fully plugged into your computer and the modem light is on.

* Huawei Modems can only be unlocked on a Window Operating System. For Mac users please unlock on a Windows machine or visit your local O2 Store along with these instructions to unlock.

To unlock the Hotshot modem you will need to insert a non-O2 SIM card into the modem.

When you have the non-O2 SIM in the modem connect it to your computer and click on the Hotshot Icon or type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar.

Login with your usual password and go to “Settings”, “Dial Up” and “Unlock SIM card”. Enter your unlock code where it says “SIMLOCK code”.

Please read my posting under setting there is no option for dial up mode so as listed in my post downloaded for o2 unlocking and said no unlocking data card found this was the same as o2 staff got in your store in roscommon please advise how i can get it unlocked before i pull my hair out by keep going over the same answers again and again

The hotshot cannot be locked through the download, it will give the error data card not found as the download is only for the usb modems.

The instructions I posted above using 198.162.1.1 is the only option

I need you to follow it exactly both trying another network sim card and an o2 sim card and I need in detail what happens with each option and how far you can get

You said there is no option for dial up, can you thgen tell me what options you do have in the settings and I can direct you

As already said this Does not work IT said invalid sim both myself and O2 STAFF AT YOUR SHOP IN ROSCOMMON TRIED WITH NO LUCK this is the new E586 model i am trying to unlock . below is a copy of the setting

Hi,

I have included a guide for unlocking along with some troubleshooting steps below. Hope this helps:

Instructions to unlock the Huawei E586 Wireless Modem


Remove the SIM card from your MiFi
Connect the MiFi to a USB port on your Windows PC
Install the connection manager software (installs automatically on first use).
Wait several minutes after the connection software has installed.
Reboot the computer.
Make sure the E586 connection manager is fully CLOSED, not just minimised!
Complete the instructions in the email from Unlocked Dongle. (Purchase E586 unlocking solution)

Solutions to common Huawei E586 unlocking problems

Make sure the device is turned on
Insert a SIM card from a different mobile network.
Disconnect the USB cable then remove and replace the MiFi battery.
Verify you have a working internet connection (this can’t be through the E586)
Reboot the PC
Connect the MiFi to a different USB port, allow a couple of minutes for the drivers to update.
Close all programs you have open and temporarily disable any virus / firewall / security software you have running on your computer
Temporarily disable the 'Huawei Mobile Connect - network adapter' in Windows network connections.
If you connect to the internet via a router, firewall or proxy, try connecting directly to the internet or allow all outbound connections.
Uninstall software \ drivers relating to any other modems that you have installed. Reboot and retry unlocking
